Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning. Its philosophy is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences. Forest School helps to develop: self-awareness; self-regulation; intrinsic motivation; empathy; good social communication skills; independence; a positive mental attitude; self-esteem and confidence.
Nestled within the wood and parklands of Swanbourne House are two special Forest School areas, each kept separate for the 3s - 6s children to explore. In small groups, with a high ratio of unobtrusive adult supervision, children are free to immerse themselves in their natural playground over an extended period of time. This enables all children to take ownership of their Forest School environment, understand the way nature works over the seasons and foster an appreciation for the natural world.
Experience has repeatedly shown that, teamwork is developed very quickly, creative endeavour can be breath-taking and curiosity for why things are naturally evolves. Children who are initially hesitant when faced with challenge or are shy, grow in confidence and natural team leadership shines through, sometimes by those you least expect.
