Our 7s and 8s are based in the Cloisters. Pupils have their own class tutor who teaches them for most lessons in the Junior School, but there are also specialist teachers for lessons such as Music, French, Design Technology, Games, and PE. This area has recently gone through a redevelopment of the classrooms, with new teaching walls and state-of-the-art touch screen boards.
The 7s and 8s is the first time the pupils get to play competitive Games. The boys play Rugby, Football and Cricket and girls Hockey, Netball and Rounders. Everyone gets a chance to play for the school. Pupils may also be involved in swim squad and enter galas or join the Junior School Choir.
At play time, pupils are free to run around on C Lawn, play on the adventure playground or play on the woods and climb trees – but no higher than the Head, Mrs Thorpe (she's 5' 7").
At lunch times and after school there is a whole range of activities. Pupils might want to go to Engineering Club, or play board games or even Clay pigeon shooting! Or they may want to make something wonderful in pottery or try their hand at archery. Perhaps they’d like to go to improve their chess skills - it’s up to them!
Trips are also an important part of how we learn. Recently, we have been to the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum in London, Verulamium, Hazard Alley, Hughenden Manor, as well as our two big summer trips to Legoland and Whipsnade Zoo. Our 8s attend a two night residential to Bristol, full of action packed team-building activities. Throughout the year, we also have workshops within school – this year we have had visiting authors, a Lego workshop and even a local Viking!
